Back by popular demand - the 2024 Scarecrow Competition!

Last year's event was a great success with 17 fabulous scarecrows displayed around the area. Let's see if we can have even more scarecrows this year - how amazing would that be? So get your thinking caps on, let your imagination run riot - the theme is 'Anything Goes' which gives you plenty of scope! The winner will be decided by a public online vote after everyone has had a chance to follow the Scarecrow Trail and submit the voting form. The prizes will be announced at the village Pub Night on Friday 6th September 2024.

To take part you need to make a scarecrow and show it off in your garden.  Then take the Scarecrow Trail to cast your votes online for your favourite creations.  You do not have to make a scarecrow to be able to vote but we'd love to see as many entries as possible all around the village.  Don't forget there are prizes to be won too!

The entry form and voting form are both online this year - no need to even walk to the post box!

The rules...

  • Entries are invited from residents of all ages who live in Catbrook, Broadstone, Whitelye and Parkhouse. You can make more than one scarecrow - but it's only one entry per household.

  • Please make scarecrows family-appropriate and in good taste!

  • Your scarecrow can be made from any materials with the exception that pre-moulded or commercially available masks are NOT permitted - that would be too easy!

  • Scarecrows should be displayed on your property so that they can be viewed from the road or a public right of way.

  • Please secure your handiwork so that it doesn't blow away and consider whether it would survive a good rainstorm, which is almost inevitable in Wales!

  • Your scarecrow should be secured and positioned so that will not cause a danger, injury or annoyance to others.

The timescale...

  • Entries are now CLOSED.

  • Scarecrows must be finished and on display by 10am on Monday 19th August 2024. The name of your scarecrow should be clearly visible to voters - so that they know who to vote for - we will give you a poster to display near your entry.

  • The Scarecrow Trail will be open from 10am Monday 19th August until 5pm on Wednesday 4 September 2024. The Scarecrow Trail map can be downloaded below.

  • We'll count the votes and announce the winners at the Pub Night on Friday 6th September 2024 at the hall.

Hints and tips ...

  • How are you going to make your scarecrow unique, original, new or funny?

  • Will your modelling skills impress voters? Is it going to be well made? Will it catch the voter's eye?

  • If you've got any questions please email Stephanie Spragg.

  • And finally...The most important rule is to get as creative as you can and HAVE FUN!
